Aisling Óir, the harp ensemble from Scoil Ruaidhrí Dall will perform at Fleadh Mhór Dhoire virtual event, on Sunday 22nd November, Studio 2 Arts Centre, Broadcast Time 9.00pm.
Featuring the Amazing Nodlaig Ní Bhrollaigh, Lucy Herr and Catherine Ní Cheallaigh in an extravagance of the finest Harp music and musician in Ireland.
Aisling Óir is a professional harp ensemble from the Roe Valley in the North West of Ireland.
Nodlaig Ní Bhrollaigh & Lucy Kerr are the directors of Scoil Ruaidhrí Dall, a community harp school, based in Dungiven Castle. They are classically and traditionally trained and the duo are joined by senior Ruaidhrí Dall harper, Catherine Ní Cheallaigh.
As a soloist, Nodlaig performed with the San Diego Symphony Orchestra after the release of her debut album, ‘Under a Pale moon’.
As a composer, Nodlaig won the All-Ireland title for her original song in Irish at Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann. Nodlaig’s first public commission was a choral work, ‘Land of Dreams’ for the opening of CS Lewis Square in Belfast. ‘Cuimhní Rúnda’ a song composed by Nodlaig was broadcast by Harp Ireland as part of the ‘Harps for Hope’ initiative this year.
Lucy, was a member of the Irish Harp Orchestra and won the Fleadh Cheoil All Ireland senior harp title. Lucy is currently Head of Music at Limavady High School. Lucy’s composition, ‘Our wee world’ for harp ensemble was broadcast by BBC NI and many of her original works have been broadcast.
Catherine is a senior Ruaidhrí Dall harper and singer from Dungiven and holds many Fleadh titles in singing and harping. She is currently studying in DCU.
Their repertoire, ‘Athraonadh’ means the refraction of light or sound that creates a change in a celestial object. The source is Gaelic, re-invigorated by contemporary rhythms and arrangements along with new works composed by Nodlaig and Lucy.
