Ceiliúradh Cruitireachta: Happy Birthday Mary O’Hara

On Sunday, 12th May 2024, Cruit Éireann | Harp Ireland was delighted to support Moya Brennan and Cormac de Barra as they launched their new album to a capacity audience in Taidhbhearc an Gaillimhe. Voices & Harps IV pays tribute to pioneering singer | harper Mary O’Hara, and this launch was made all the more special having taken place on Mary’s birthday.

Having risen to fame in the 1950s, O’Hara is credited with inspiring many musicians in the Irish folk revival of the 1960s and subsequent years. Her music traverses the boundaries of folk and art music, displaying dexterity in her unique approach to arrangements for harp and voice.

Paying homage to her legacy, Moya Brennan and Cormac de Barra reimagined some of Mary’s best known tracks some seventy years after their initial release. We were deeply honoured that Mary O’Hara joined us for this special celebration which recognised and thanked Mary for all that she has done for Irish harping.
