Harpers, teachers and communities in Roscommon produced an exciting programme of events which celebrated the Roscommon harping tradition for Lá na Cruite | Harp Day Roscommon 2024, on Saturday 19th October.
The project embodied CÉHI’s Harp Day Theme Cothú (Nurture or Nourish) by building upon Roscommon’s harping heritage as homeplace to renowned 17th century harper, Turlough Carolan. Partnerships with local harpers, Music Generation Roscommon and Leitrim enabled them to bring harpers and communities together, extend the harp’s reach to people who may not have had the opportunity to experience it before, and celebrate the unique harping legacy of the county.

Events were held in King House, a busy venue with significant public footfall.
The events included Hands on Harp Workshops with Emma Benson and Elisabeth Affolter, a Lecture-recital with Teresa O’Donnell: Remembering Carolan
Harp Concert: Celebrating Roscommon’s harping heritage with Teresa O’Donnell, Emma Benson, Music Generation Leitrim and Roscommon Harp Ensembles
