CÉHI announces Tyrone Guthrie Harpers’ Residency 2024 recipients

CÉHI, in partnership with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, is delighted to award Alannah Thornburgh and Gemma Doherty a one-week harpers’ residency at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre. Located near Newbliss in Co Monaghan, The Tyrone Guthrie Centre provides the perfect haven of seclusion and quiet to enable creativity to flourish and harp players will be able to avail of its numerous facilities ranging from a composer’s room to a custom-designed performance studio with state-of-the-art facilities.

Gemma Doherty is an Irish composer, harpist, singer, and producer. Her solo instrumental work combines experimental Irish folk/traditional with contemporary music, exploring the versatility of the Irish harp with electronics and effects. As one half of electronic-folk duo Saint Sister, she has released two critically acclaimed albums, and toured worldwide including performances at Glastonbury, SXSW, and an NPR Tiny Desk Concert.

A multi-instrumentalist, composer and arranger from Mayo and based in Dublin, Alannah Thornburgh has toured Ireland, the United States, the UK and Europe extensively as a soloist and in various bands. She is a founding member of Alfí, a trio who combine traditional Irish and Appalachian music and song. She is the resident harp tutor in Maynooth University. Alannah is currently producing her début album ‘Shapeshifter’ inspired by folklore and mythology in rural Ireland.

Special thanks to all the applicants who brought a diverse range of interesting projects to us for consideration. We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in 2025. More information about the Tyrone Guthrie Centre at https://www.tyroneguthrie.ie/
