The 1792 Harpers’ Assembly in Belfast was an important event in the history and life of the town. Belfast’s reformers and radicals shared an interest in the past. Read David Byers’ fascinating account of their support for the surviving Irish harpers and how through the work of Edward Bunting, they succeeded in preserving the ancient harping tradition, its music and practices that were fast disappearing.
